The community of Summerfield is the success story that started it all for Lakewood Ranch now hailed as the largest green real estate development in the entire US. This real estate development in Manatee County, Florida, started to be developed in the mid-1990s from an 8,500-acre stretch of pasture and timber land owned by SMR Farms.

Summerfield was the first village to rise at Lakewood Ranch which at the outset was already focused on providing single-family homes.
