Nokomis maybe a small, quaint district composed of less than 2,000 households in Sarasota County, but it can take pride in its Calusa Lakes community that has established itself as a prime real estate choice in Florida. The community is situated in 460 acres of lush woodlands with twenty-eight glittering lakes that provide a pristine setting to a golf course, a club house, and alluring residences.
Calusa Lakes, for most, can qualify as a secluded, quiet hideaway. However, the modern conveniences of city living remain within easy reach of those living in the community which is located only a few minutes’ drive from State Road 41 and Interstate 75. At this location, the city of Venice in the south is only five minutes away while Sarasota is just twenty minutes distant at the north. The Sarasota/Bradenton Airport, notably, is only about a thirty-minute drive from the Calusa Lakes.
Affinity with the natural environment is at once evident upon entry into the community’s entrance adorned by two waterfalls opposite each other. Visitors will be greeted by a cozy clubhouse that has undergone a recent facelift, thus further enhancing its various amenities.
There’s a wide variety of selections for food and drinks at the clubhouses’ Bar and Grill. The dining room, available for large social gatherings like weddings, serves breakfast and lunch each day of the week. CALUSA LAKES GOLF CLUB MEMBERSHIP
Club membership provides golfing privileges not only to Calusa Lake’s 18-hole golf course but also to those at the Waterford and Capri Isles layouts in the nearby city of Venice. All together this brings 63 holes of golf in five 18-hole combination’s. All of these links are semi-private championship courses that can be booked for play five days in advance.
The par 72 Calusa Lakes course, which opened in 1991, has also undergone a recent renovation to resurface its greens with Champion grass. Designed by a famed course architect, Ted McAnlis, it has four sets of tees adaptable to individual golfer skills. McAnlis successfully melded the course with the area’s pristine natural environment, creating a wooded layout of oaks and pines in a rolling terrain. Longest play is at the men’s black tees measuring 6,715 yards and shortest is at ladies’ red tees with 5,197 yards. Course ratings range from 67.6 to 72.5 and slope ratings from 114 to 125.
The Waterford and Capri Isles’ layouts also play at par 72. The Waterford, likewise a McAnlis design, is a 27-hole layout in three different link configurations (Greeneagles, Turnberry, and Sawgrass). The course yardages range from 5,016 to 6,670; course ratings are from 66.5 to 72.4, and slope ratings between 115 and 134. Play at the Capri Isles go from 5,075 to 6,600 yards at its four tee placements with course ratings from 67.5 to 71.8 and slope ratings from 115 to 130.
Resident golf pros are available for training at Calusa Lakes which also has a 180-yard aqua driving range and putting greens as practice facilities. On top of the membership categories at this golf club is the couple’s package for Championship membership costing $5,860. Available at $2,100 is a single membership alternative. Other membership offerings include those for junior and junior couple memberships.
There are many residential options in the well-secured Calusa Lakes community which consists of 575 single-family homes. These residences, consisting of custom-designed houses and Mediterranean-inspired homes were built by some of the best builders in Florida, including Lincoln and Nisley.
