Restaurant Spotlight: Bijou Café

Bijou Café is a fine dining experience in Sarasota, Florida. Opened in 1986, the restaurant has set the bar high for fine dining in the Theatre and Arts District. This charming restaurant offers Continental-American cuisine and offers am award-winning wine list.

Chef Jean-Pierre Knaggs and wife Shay are owners and operates since the start. The restaurant used to seat 50 people and now has expanded to hold 140 people. Here is a look at the Bijou Café experience in Sarasota.

Ambiance

The restaurant offers a quaint experience and feels much like a European café. There are three separate dining areas.

  • The Patio Room is a private dining room that holds 40 people.
  • The Gossips Lounge seats 9 people at the beautiful bar and 20 at the outdoor courtyard.
  • The Bird Room is designed to hold 30 people and is typically used for meetings, conferences, rehearsal dinners and other special events. It offers an upscale, private environment.

You can enjoy Bijou Café for lunch or dinner. They are open Monday-Friday at 11:30am and dinner is served at 5pm. The restaurant features art that is for sale at the State of the Arts Gallery. They dress code for the restaurant is resort casual. You can dine in, make a reservation or take a meal home for carry-out. The restaurant is located at 1287 1st Street at Pineapple Avenue.

For lunch, enjoy soups and salads to start. Enjoy sandwiches like the wild mushroom and gruyere grilled cheese or the bijou burger. Lunch entrees include items like the chicken paillard, the spinach and roasted tomato capellini, the market fish and the bijou crab cakes.

For dinner, start with soup or a salad and then indulge in an entrée such as the Braaivleis South-African mixed grill, the char grilled new York sirloin strip, the seasonal salmon or the bijou crisp roasted duck. With your meal enjoy a glass off of their extensive wine list and a dessert like the callebaut finest Belgian chocolate mousse.
