Restaurant Spotlight: Bijou Café

Bijou Café is a fine dining experience in Sarasota, Florida. Opened in 1986, the restaurant has set the bar high for fine dining in the Theatre and Arts District. This charming restaurant offers Continental-American cuisine and offers am award-winning wine list.

Chef Jean-Pierre Knaggs and wife Shay are owners and operates since the start. The restaurant used to seat 50 people and now has expanded to hold 140 people. Here is a look at the Bijou Café experience in Sarasota.


The restaurant offers a quaint experience and feels much like a European café. There are three separate dining areas.

  • The Patio Room is a private dining room that holds 40 people.
  • The Gossips Lounge seats 9 people at the beautiful bar and 20 at the outdoor courtyard.
  • The Bird Room is designed to hold 30 people and is typically used for meetings, conferences, rehearsal dinners and other special events. It offers an upscale, private environment.

You can enjoy Bijou Café for lunch or dinner. They are open Monday-Friday at 11:30am and dinner is served at 5pm. The restaurant features art that is for sale at the State of the Arts Gallery. They dress code for the restaurant is resort casual. You can dine in, make a reservation or take a meal home for carry-out. The restaurant is located at 1287 1st Street at Pineapple Avenue.

Golf Course Spotlight: Bobby Jones Golf Club

Golf ClubGolfers that haven’t been yet, you must make a visit to the Bobby Jones Golf Club. It’s Sarasota’s best public and semi-private golf course. The famed 18-hole course was designed by Donald Ross in 1925. Another nine were added in 1952 and another nine in 1967.

This golf course sees visitors from all over the world. The Bobby Jones Golf Club offers golf, lessons, tournaments, junior summer camps, leagues, golf shop, dining and tennis courts. Here is more information on what makes the Bobby Jones Golf Club so great.


This golf course is the only course located within city limits of Sarasota. It’s located one hour south of Tampa. You can’t beat golfing on the Gulf of Mexico coast. It contains two 18-hole championship courses with one 9-hole executive course. The course is most popular with women and seniors. There are sparkling lakes, rolling hills and beautiful live oaks on the course.

The British Course is one of the 18-hole courses at a 72 par. The American course is the other 18-hole course with a par 71. The Gillespie Executive Course is the 9-hole option popular with new golfers and those looking to sharpen their skills.

A Closer Look at the Fiorelli Winery in Bradenton

WineryIf you are looking for a great winery in the area, try the Fiorelli Winery in Bradenton. It’s a family-owned and operated winery located in eastern Manatee County. The owners moved to the area from Casteldaccia, Sicily and noticed this area was very similar to home. Once grapes started growing in the backyard garden they decided to start making wine in the garage.


The Fiorelli Winery was just a place to make wine and today has become two buildings; one building is used for fermenting and bottling while the other bottle is used for wine tasting and sales. They have been able to expand to 10 acres of vineyard with 3,000 square feet of winery.

Due to their expansion and growth since their start in 1998, Fiorelli Winery has been awarded over 100 times in commercial international wine competitions.

Location and Hours

The Rosa Fiorelli Winery & Vineyard is located 4250 Country Road 675 East in Bradenton, FL.  They are only closed on Tuesdays and they are open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am-5:30pm, Sunday from 12-5pm and Monday from 10am-5:30pm. They do close on major holidays.

Rolling Green Golf Club is located in beautiful Sarasota, Florida. Unlike many others, this golf club is one of the friendliest clubs in town. Golf is challenging and interesting and includes a driving range and practice area. Their clubhouse offers dining and a Pro Shop. Members will enjoy free green fees and advanced tee times. The golf course is 6,500 yards in size. It’s designed for any level of golf to use. You’ll find wide fairways and large greens throughout the course. It’s a par 72 layout and it’s commonly used for weekly leagues and tournaments.

The golf course has a practice facility and driving range. You can practice on chipping greens and putting greens or use the range to work on your long game.

The Hammocks is a Sarasota neighborhood located at the end of Bee Ridge Road. It’s just east of Interstate 75 and is considered one of the most attractive neighborhoods in the city. It offers beautiful ponds with fountains, scenic wooded views, winding roads, and dense nature preserves. Residents love the safety with it being a gated and deed-restricted neighborhood. The 2014 Frightmares Haunted House - 3000 Ringling Boulevard, Sarasota, FL

This October 16th-18th, check out the 2014 Frightmares Haunted House. It’s coming to the Sarasota County Fair Grounds and it’s sure to be a spooky fun time. It’s going to feature two attractions in one and it’s being called “The Biggest and Baddest EXTREME Haunted House this Side of the Grave.”

Tickets are $16 and it lasts from 7:30pm to 10:30pm on Thursday and 7:30pm to 11:30pm on Friday and Saturday. The good news is if you miss the first weekend, they’ll feature it again on October 23rd-26th and October 30th-November 1st.
