Five Points Park to Host the 5th Annual Harvey Milk Festival
Five Points Park is located on Main Street and Pineapple Avenue in Sarasota, Florida. This park will be the location for the 5th Annual Harvey Milk Festival, which will be held on May 15th - 17th from 4pm to 11:45pm. This is a free festival with an after-party, which costs $5 per person.
The goal of the festival is to celebrate the life of Harvey Milk. He was one of the first openly gay Americans to be elected to public office. Harvey was well-known for cultivating music and rejecting discrimination.
This year's festival will feature Ghost Beach as the headliner. This New York tropical grit pop duo has been praised by many through their national tour. They provide many great singles, such as "Been There Before" and more. The band comes along with an 80s beach-synth style, which fits perfect with this type of festival.
Slow Magic will co-headline the festival and a DJ/musician that hasn't been decided yet will also become a part of the festival. Other musicians are scheduled to perform, as well.
Throb Nightclub will host the after-party, which will feature even more fun. The $5 cover will be donated to the festival.
Along with the festival, a screening of the documentary "The Dog" will be held. This documentary chronicles John Wojtowicz robbing a New York City bank in order to raise money for a sex change for his lover.
May 16th will feature the Art portion of the festival with the exhibits "Love Without Limits" at Concrete Countertops Etc. in the Rosemary District.
Over the three day festival, plenty of other events will happen, as well. For a full list of events, performers and more information, check out the official website of the festival at, http://harveymilkfestival.com.
